As a member of Rice's Information Technology division, the Instructional Technology Specialist will work with Rice faculty to integrate and support technology in teaching and learning.

The Instructional Technology Specialist will work closely with the faculty, library and learning resource centers to integrate multi-media, web technologies, new technology tools, and content into classroom projects; identify and develop appropriate tools and technologies for individual faculty projects; recommend Instructional Technology applications, hardware, software, facilities and support in conjunction with faculty and Information Technology staff; provide quality service and support for assessing, planning, developing, and supporting classroom and network-based instructional technologies; determine classroom and lab technology needs; organize, develop and lead workshops, seminars and training to support faculty use of instructional technology; monitor and assess the effectiveness of educational technology at Rice; and collect, analyze, and report data for internal use and to respond to external surveys such as Educause Core Data Service, publishers of college guidebooks, and other surveys.

Required: Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, or other related technical discipline. At least 3 years of progressive work experience in a complex computing environment with experience in programming web, database, and related technologies, publishing, and E-mail. Experience with web/database applications such as Access, File Maker, SQL Server, Oracle, Cold Fusion, Dream Weaver, Front Page, web and database tools and content management systems preferred. Significant knowledge of HTML (including tables, forms and image maps), XML, common text editors, PhotoShop, image scanning software, and OCR software. At least 5 years experience with Macintosh and IBM PC computers including word processing, spreadsheets, page layout, databases, web publishing, and E-mail. At least two years of successful experience working in higher education supporting faculty in the use of learning technologies; demonstrated experience in classroom training, presentation skills, and pedagogy. Experience in developing and delivering online materials and programs.

Project management experience including the ability to scope, plan, and prioritize multiple projects preferred. Knowledge of archiving methodologies (creating CDs, documenting custom application changes, backing up of course files). Knowledge of security issues pertaining to the World Wide Web; prefer experience with WebCT course management system. Excellent knowledge of technologies used for course delivery over the Internet, and the strengths and weaknesses of each one. Knowledge of policies and issues related to e-learning, distance learning, or learning technologies in a campus environment is a plus. Strong comfort level and ease with learning new software; ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of learning technologies and best practices. Demonstrated experience as a team player.
